The European confrontation is a special moment to organize also the competition of the young European breeders. All countries can be represented by two young people even if they do not participate in the European Confrontation.

The Young Breeders Showmanship Competition will be judged by Cord Horman (Germany) and Michael Halliwell (UK), with Quim Serrabassa (Spain) as Reserve Judge.

Cord Hormann – (Germany) 

Living in Warmsen, Lower Saxony, Germany, Cord is the owner and operator of Wilcor Holsteins with 50 milking cows and female offspring plus 70 ha farmland. He attends shows regularly with his own cattle. The current production is 11.500 kg; 14 EX, 34 VG, 2 GP. Cord graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Osnabrueck, Germany in 2009 with a bachelor degree in agriculture. He spent 10 months in North America during High School and worked with cows at shows like World Dairy Expo, Royal Winter Fair, Swiss Expo. Cord has been a member of the German Judging Pool since 2008.

Judging Career :

Nationally: German National Holstein Show 2017 and almost all regional shows in the past years.

Internationally: Switzerland, Austria, Northern Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Luxembourg, Russia.

Michael Halliwell – (United Kingdom)

Michael lives with his wife Rebecca and their daughter Niamh in Cheshire, UK.

Michael started as herd manager of the Embryoworld herd in 1989. In 1990 they were the highest yielding herd in UK with a herd average of 11,300kgs. Michael worked in Canada in 1991 and then returned to the Embryoworld Herd and managed the herd until it’s dispersal in autumn 1993.

From November 1993 to August 1997 Michael was retained as a freelance fitter, self-employed throughout UK, Europe and North America preparing cattle for shows and managing show teams and cattle sales. Michael worked for many of the leading herds in the UK and Europe and also for Pinehurst Holsteins, WI, USA.

In August 1997 Michael was involved in the establishment of an independent reproduction technician business. Over the last 20 years he has had the opportunity to work with many dairies around the UK and further afield focusing on genetics and reproductive management. In January 2016 he joined the Worldwide Sires team in the UK.

Michael still has a passion for preparing cattle at shows whenever time allows, working primarily with Bons Holsteins for the last 10 years. He has shown for over 25 years around the world, extensively throughout Europe and North America.

Judging Career :

Nationally: shows in the UK and Ireland and Europe
Internationally: Michael has enjoyed being part of the training at the EYBS school in Battice since 2011.

Quim Serrabassa – (Spain)

Quim Serrabassa Vila is Triangle Holstein’s manager director. Quim has been working in dairy business during the last thirty years, giving sire mating advise, selecting animals, advising in reproduction programs, and preparing animals for shows, championships and exhibitions.

He has 30 years experience in showing cows and has participated in the most well known National and International shows in Europe, EUA, Canada and in many competitions all over Spain, Italy, Holland, France and Switzerland. He has been able to enjoy preparing many champions and showing them in the ring. 10 times champion cow in Spain, twice champion cow in France, 4 times champion cow in Italy, 3 times champion cow in the Netherlands.

Judging Career :

Quim has been the associate judge for young breeder competitions in Madison (2010), Expo 2014, Eurogenetic (2015) and Supreme Latier Quebec in 2015. He has taught at clipping schools in Spain and Hungary.
